An Indian adventure and a lesson in Global Citizenship.Six lucky Sixth Formers from Bangor Academy have been selected to join the Saphara trip to India in October 2018 following a rigorous application and interview process.

They will join the other nine participants from our Shared Education Schools, Bangor Grammar and St. Columbanus’, at the first of a series of workshops, residentials and fundraising activities to prepare them for the ten day trip to India next year.

Saphara’s personal development programme aims to get young people actively engaged in global citizenship. Workshops in TEFL, fundraising and learning about Indian culture will prepare them for a trip that promises to transform their outlook on the world. Our intrepid travellers will get involved in the community as they teach English, meet Indian peers, experience Indian culture and maybe squeeze in a visit to the Taj Mahal.

Saphara is a local charity setup by ex-teacher, Dr. Christine Burnett, to provide educational opportunities to families facing poverty and deprivation in India whilst offering pupils from Northern Ireland the chance to connect with and learn from their Indian counterparts.
