E-mail Print

Cinemagic EventBangor Academy welcomed BBC TV documentary producer, Michael Beattie, to school as part of the Cinemagic International Film and TV Festival for Young People.

Year 12 Moving Image Arts students got to spend a whole afternoon learning from this UTV journalist turned BBC producer, taking career advice and learning some of the tricks of the TV production trade. So what exactly does a producer do? Pretty much everything it turns out! From planning and researching a programme to pitching for funding and a commission to final filming, and editing; Michael Beattie was experienced in every stage of telling the story on TV. Most recently you may have seen his controversial documentary on the Maze Prison break called ‘Breakout’, aired on the BBC back in September. Our students were fascinated to hear about the delicate negotiations, editorial decisions and fallout from televising such controversial subject matter.
