All the Trimmings - Christmas at Bangor Academy

Christmas celebrations 2015In the last week of term, the tree was getting a little crispy, but its arrival three weeks before had prompted the pupil leadership team to get their Santa wish list together for festive events.

They held the first  House Christmas table quiz on the last day of term and organised  a bake sale and staff  car wash to raise funds for the Formal. Not to be left out, the staff have raised money for Oxfam and the Trussle Trust, Mrs Kingham’s shortbread and snowballs sales raised money to adopt an Amur Leopard and many enjoyed the staff family  Christmas party organised by Mrs Anderson.

Year 8

Year 8s have been making chocolate truffles in H.E., the Art Department took Art Club to The Mac to see the pantomime and there was a Christmas cinema trip for Year 8 on Thursday. The Rudolph Reading Relay was once again an intensely fought competition to become the class in each band to acquire the most Accelerated Reader points in one 40 minute period. Well done to:

8A1….Mr Hicks
8A5…Miss Burns
8C3…Mrs Huntley

The Pet Club and the cleaning staff organised  collections for Assisi Animal Sanctuary and delivered their hampers packed full of leads, toys, collars and even dog coats. A timely gesture as the UTV report on Assisi’s work served to highlight.

Prize Day

Prize Day feels even more special due to the added Christmas sparkle the new timing affords it. It was lovely to celebrate achievement with our pupils, parents and guests. Thanks for coming everyone. We all enjoyed a snippet of the Music Department’s hard work when the consort sang. Their full repertoire was showcased at both the Bangor Business Carol Service and our own annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols in St. Galls prior to breaking up for the festive fortnight.

Year 12

Year 12 have made it through their written papers, completed orals and some final controlled assessment. At least from Friday they can relax. January means mock results, reports and action planning to get the best GCSE grades possible -  so take this well-earned respite! At this point we need to mention that Mrs Hassard's final batch of exam concession pupils have benefitted from the diligent, encouraging care she has always given. Her expertise and wry humour will be missed. Enjoy your retirement Patricia.

Have a safe and merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
