Prize Day 2015

Prize Day 2015Bangor Academy celebrated the success and recognised all the hard work pupils put into the 2014/15 academic year at Prize Day on 15th December.

Mr Pitts introduced a new format with video highlights of the past year introducing each Key Stage’s activities before their prizes were awarded and guests were invited to a vintage tea party for refreshments afterwards.

It was a pleasure to welcome our honoured guests, Mrs Anne Connolly, Chair of the Policing Board and her husband, Mr Connolly, as well as a number of local educationalists and politicians who took time out of their busy schedules to share our celebrations. As ever, we were delighted to catch up with our leavers to hear all about their experiences at university, college and work since leaving the Academy. It was also great to see Mrs Beech who returned from retirement to share in the success to which she contributed in her last year of teaching.

Finally we remembered the members of our school community who we lost last year. Gaenor Thompson’s mother collected a commemorative bowl to remind her and her family of Gaenor’s time at school and to say she is still very much in our thoughts. We awarded the first Ronnie Black Awards to students who show energy, commitment and enthusiasm within our school community.  Mr Black’s loss is still keenly felt and the awards are one way to remember the impact Ronnie had on generations of pupils.
