Friends Forever Programme Students go to BostonRebecca (Yr 14) and Gareth (Yr. 11) are excitedly preparing for a two week trip to Boston courtesy of Boston Rotary Club’s support for the Friends Forever Community Relations Programme.

North Down YMCA and St. Comgall’s Youth Parish invited local teens to sign up to this trip of a life-time and two of Bangor Academy’s pupils have been selected.

Rebecca and Gareth are part of a 10 strong group of teenagers heading to Boston in October to engage in a range of activities designed to help teenagers from different communities build bridges and break down fears. They will volunteer at community service projects such as a Boston soup kitchen and participate in a series challenges designed to help the 10 participants to get to know one another, build trust and learn about their own and each others’ strengths.

Rebecca said, “I am really excited about this trip. I talked to other pupils, Rachel Franklin and Karl Beare, who went in previous years and their experiences convinced me to apply. I am nervous about some of the challenges we might face but I know I’m going to have a really interesting trip to remember. We meet the rest of the teenagers going for the first time this week, so the excitement is really starting to build.”
