Titanic WinnerA creative Year 10 History student has won a VIP tour of the Titanic experience for coming top in the recent Guardian Learning NI Newsdesk Titanic competition.

Lauren's entry was judged by the education officers at the newly opened Titanic Experience, who declared her entry the best because of its original and engaging approach. David Huntley, Editor of the Learning N.I. Guardian Newsdesk said:

"There were well over a thousand entries from schools all over Northern Ireland, and several from Bangor Academy made the shortlist of 50. Mrs Gillespie's approach of encouraging her pupils to adopt a different slant on their writing resulted in some unique and individual work.

Lauren's work, written as if she WAS the Titanic, hugely impressed the staff at Titanic Belfast. But work from Jessica Keough, Hannah Lockhart and Courtney Lampard was also very seriously considered."

In addition to attending a special prize giving on the famous reconstruction of the Titanic's Grand Staircase, Lauren has won a trip for her whole class to take the Titanic Experience tour.
