CCEA BooksBangor Academy teachers share top tips in new text books

Pupils don’t usually show much excitement about a text book delivery, but if one of the authors happens to be your teacher - that’s a different matter! Year 11 and Yr 9 Bangor Academy students joined Mrs. Wylie (Head of English) and Mrs Anderson (Head of Home Economics) to celebrate the publication of three new text books co-authored by these industrious Bangor Academy staff.

Pauline Wylie worked on GCSE English and English Language; a text book she co-authored with her CCEA colleagues: John Andrews, Aidan Lennon and Jenny Lendrum.

The book aims to guide pupils through the new CCEA GCSE English and English Language specifications introduced this September. It takes students through every aspect of the new courses and is packed with advice, new practice materials, sample answers and mark schemes. An accompanying teacher’s guide offers further valuable resources, tips and techniques for English teachers to exploit. Hopefully, these new resources will help make the transition from the old to the new English and English Language specifications as seamless as possible for Northern Ireland’s 2012 GCSE candidates.

In Home Economics, Head of Department, Nicola Anderson, also put pen to paper to compile two text books, one for the new GCSE Home Economics specifications co-authored with Sullivan Upper teacher, Claire Thomson and a Key Stage Three book for years 8 – 10, co-authored with Down High School teacher, Sharon McKee. Published by well-known educational publisher, Hodder, these books appear in school bags all over Northern Ireland.

It answers the question of how some teachers put those long summer breaks to good use!
