Learning Lessons in Law

Learning Lessons in LawYear 13 students at Bangor Academy have enjoyed the first of five sessions with John F. Larkin QC, Attorney General for Northern Ireland as part of the Living Law scheme.

This enrichment programme aims to give students an insight into law and the justice system. In October they visited the Attorney General's office in Belfast to hear about life in the legal profession from a barrister, a solicitor and some law students. Finally our students had to test their own persuasive powers by taking part in a debate to explore the following premise: "Ignorance of the law should be a defence."

Future sessions in November and February take our students to Stormont to see how law affects the legislative process, to the CPS and to court to hear and then participate in mock bail hearings.
