Health and Social Care ClassDepartmental vision and aims: To provide every pupil with a firm understanding of the Health, Social Care and Early Years Sectors so that they are empowered to proceed with confidence to vocational employment or higher level study.

Learning objectives:

Key stage 4: GCSE

To investigate and evaluate a range of services and organisations within the health, social care, early years and children’s services sector;
To find out what it’s like to work in the health, social care, early years and children’s services sector;
To gain knowledge and understanding of personal development; 
To examine issues that affect the nature and quality of human life, including diversity and cultural issues. 

Key stage 5: AS/A2 Level

To develop and sustain an interest in health, early years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector; 
To  acquire through both practical and theoretical contexts, knowledge and understanding of health, early years care and education and issues affecting the health and social care sector and of the inherent complexities and interrelationships; 
To  actively participate in practical activities which allow them to competently apply their knowledge, understanding and skills when exploring issues associated with the subject; 
To  develop skills that will enable them to make an effective contribution to the care sector including skills of research, evaluation and problem-solving in a work related context; 
To use information and communications technology (ICT) to enhance their Health and Social Care capability; 
To prepare for further study and training in the vocational area.
