Bangor Academy Celebrates Chinese New Year in a Year of the Dog SpectacularIt is becoming something of an annual tradition for Bangor Academy to lay on some sparkle and splendour for the Chinese New Year celebrations.

This year the dancing lions were nimbly embodied by Jason Wassall, Jack Earl, Caitlin Nicholl and David Craig. The Academy was also delighted to welcome pupils from Central Primary School; Mrs Stevenson and her ribbon dancers were a triumph and Brooke’s winning poster graced the front cover of the programme.

The audience enjoyed a range of oriental displays ranging from Tai Chi to the beautiful guzheng performance (a Chinese plucked string instrument).

Mrs Coulter (International School Co-ordinator at BASFC) said;

“As ever I am indebted to our pupils and our Chinese teachers, Lily and Candice, their dedication and enthusiasm really helped us pull the whole show together. I was also delighted to welcome Madam Yam and Michael from the Confucius Institute at the University of Ulster.  I’d like to congratulate Jason Wassall who has just been made our first Confucius Ambassador, representing the Bangor Academy Hub in recognition of his Mandarin learning skills. He and fellow Sixth Form pupil Weena Yau (who won the Confucius Poster competition) will be attending the Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on the 1st March.”
